Iran could recover some enriched uranium after US strikes - Israeli official

Israel warns Iran may attempt to recover enriched uranium buried under one of three nuclear facilities hit by US forces in June’s “Operation Midnight Hammer.” A senior Israeli official, speaking anonymously to US media, revealed that accessing the uranium at Isfahan would be a daunting task, likely triggering swift Israeli retaliation.

Former President Trump claims the strikes “wiped out” Iran’s nuclear capabilities, though US intelligence offers a more reserved assessment. A leaked Defense Intelligence Agency report notes significant damage to Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan but stops short of calling them fully destroyed. CIA Director John Ratcliffe emphasized that Iran’s metallic uranium production site was obliterated, severely limiting its nuclear weapon potential.

Iran insists its uranium enrichment is for peaceful purposes, denying any weapons agenda. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi confirmed the facilities were heavily damaged but not entirely eliminated, with some structures still intact. Iranian President Mahmoud Pezeshkian admitted the sites were “severely impacted,” hindering access for a full damage assessment.

Israel estimates Iran’s nuclear program has been delayed by two years. The official expressed confidence that any move to retrieve the uranium would be detected, ensuring a robust response.
