Texas floods death toll rises to 91, officials say, as storm warnings continue

A catastrophic flash flood in central Texas, triggered by torrential rains on July 4, 2025, has claimed at least 91 lives, with Kerr County suffering the heaviest toll of 75 deaths. Camp Mystic, a nearly century-old Christian girls’ summer camp along the Guadalupe River, confirmed the heartbreaking loss of 27 campers and counselors. The Guadalupe River surged 26 feet in under an hour, devastating homes, camps, and infrastructure. Search and rescue operations, involving helicopters, drones, and boats, continue into the fourth day, with dozens still missing, including 10 campers and one counselor from Camp Mystic. President Donald Trump signed a major disaster declaration for Kerr County on Sunday, unlocking federal aid, but criticism mounts over inadequate flood warnings, with reports indicating the National Weather Service issued alerts hours before the disaster, though local action was limited. More storms are forecast through Monday evening, raising fears of further flooding in the already saturated Texas Hill Country. Community relief efforts, including donations via the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, are underway to support survivors.
