Tensions between President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk have reached a boiling point, with Trump hinting at deporting the Tesla CEO following a heated dispute over the Republicans' "One Big Beautiful Bill." The clash has sparked a public war of words, with both sides trading barbs over social media and in the press
Trump’s Deportation Warning
When questioned by White House reporters about the possibility of deporting Musk, a U.S. citizen born in South Africa, Trump responded cryptically, “We’ll have to take a look.” He escalated the rhetoric by threatening to unleash the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), describing it as a "monster" that could "eat" Musk.
“We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon,” Trump declared.
The president accused Musk of opposing his signature legislation, claiming the billionaire was upset over the bill’s lack of support for electric vehicle (EV) subsidies. In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump suggested Musk’s businesses—SpaceX, Tesla, and Starlink—could face severe consequences.
“Elon’s losing his EV mandate. He’s very upset about things, but you know, he could lose a lot more than that,” Trump wrote. “No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE.”
Trump further claimed that without government subsidies, Musk might be forced to “close up shop and head back home to South Africa.” He even suggested DOGE could investigate Musk’s finances, stating, “Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”
Musk Fires Back
Musk, the world’s wealthiest individual and a major Trump donor during the 2024 election, didn’t hold back. Taking to his platform X, he called for drastic cuts to government spending, writing, “I am literally saying CUT IT ALL. Now.”
The Tesla CEO has been vocal about his opposition to the "One Big Beautiful Bill," arguing it would balloon the national debt by a staggering $5 trillion. In a series of X posts, Musk slammed the legislation, dubbing it a product of the “PORKY PIG PARTY” and warning of fiscal irresponsibility.
Musk has also doubled down on his push for a new political movement, the “America Party,” should the bill pass. His posts have garnered significant attention, amplifying the feud and drawing supporters to his cause.
From Allies to Adversaries
The rift marks a dramatic shift in the relationship between Trump and Musk, who were once closely aligned. Musk’s substantial financial backing during the 2024 campaign and his frequent presence alongside Trump initially suggested a strong partnership. However, disagreements over the controversial bill have turned their alliance into a public spectacle.
Musk contends that the legislation undermines the fiscal savings he claims to have achieved through DOGE, a department he’s been closely associated with. His outspoken criticism has only fueled Trump’s ire, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown.
What’s Next?
As the feud intensifies, all eyes are on how this clash between two of America’s most influential figures will unfold. Will Trump follow through on his threats, or is this simply political posturing? And can Musk’s America Party gain traction amid the controversy? One thing is clear: this battle is far from over.
