Man killed and body dumped in vehicle – The Standard
Residents of Got Rateng village in Mbita were left in shock after a 48-year-old woman reportedly collapsed and died while with her 23-year-old lover on Friday morning.
According to police reports, the woman, who had been widowed for some years, was said to have been in a relationship with the young man for the past two years.
Locals noted that the affair began after the man “inherited” her following her husband’s death, in line with some Luo cultural practices of widow inheritance.
The events leading to the tragedy began earlier in the evening when the two lovers were seen drinking together. They later hired a boda boda rider to take them home.
However, before reaching their destination, the couple asked to be dropped a short distance away. Instead of heading straight home, they chose to spend time together in a nearby thicket.
A source close to the matter revealed that the two engaged in intimacy in the bush, but moments later, the woman collapsed.
The young man, overwhelmed by the situation, alerted locals who rushed to the scene. Police officers later arrived and confirmed that the woman had already died.
“The officers found the body lying at the scene with no visible injuries,” a police source confirmed.
The body was later transferred to the City mortuary, where a postmortem is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The shocking incident has stirred conversations in the village, with many residents expressing disbelief. Some linked the death to the couple’s heavy drinking before the session, while others pointed to the woman’s age and possible health complications.
Meanwhile, police arrested the 23-year-old man for questioning as investigations continue.
Although preliminary findings indicate there was no foul play, officers said it was standard procedure to take the man into custody until the postmortem report is released.
